Oppo is back in Europe after a legal dispute with one of its 5G competitors. And they’re back with a stunning new Oppo Reno 11F. The perfect phone for the young, active and attractive here’s why:

First impressions

Unboxing the phone my first impression was premium flagship housing. I’m testing the palm green version which in my eyes is the best colour option for this phone. The dark ink-like green adds to the already premium look and feel and resists well against fingerprints. The narrow bezels and screen ratio is good and add to the premium feel. I am missing the headphone jack which for a phone marketed for people with active lifestyles would remain a required feature for me. Call me old-fashioned, but I would prefer to see the headphone jack return on all phones. Finally, the thing that jumped out to me when I first picked it up, it is surprisingly lightweight (177 grams) for a phone with a larger battery capacity.

Expert in snaps

The new Reno utilizes no less than 3 main cameras. A 64MP f/1.7 main camera allows for high-quality photos even in low-light conditions. The second lens provides more perspective being an ultra-wide 8 MP f/2.2 112˚. The lens duo is complemented by a third 2 MP f/2.4 lens providing a macro perspective. While the first two lenses boast impressive results in various conditions the macro lens provides the best results under optimized lighting conditions. The Oppo borrows a great performing 32MP IMX615 selfie camera from Sony in a punch-hole notch in the front. The camera app offers a PRO tab which I loved.

Good quality display

The phone has a very decent 120Hz OLED display with a 10-bit colour depth. The phone can shoot movies in a higher resolution than the display can handle (FHD+) but this is true for almost all sub-flagship phones. A nice touch; the phone comes equipped with a screen protector from the factory.

Type: OLED, 120Hz, 1100 nits (peak), Panda glass (twice-reinforced)
Size: 6.7 inches, 108.0 cm2 (~89.8% screen-to-body ratio)
Resolution: FHD+ (1,080 x 2,412), 394 PPI

Impressive Battery

The 11F is equipped with a 5000 mAh and can charge with 67W with SuperVooC fast charging. Oppo has developed pre-conditioning for charging in colder temperatures (up to -20 Celsius) which is perfect for those who enjoy winter sports for example. Battery replacements will cost approximately 70 euros which is fair. In certain cases, Oppo even offers a 4-year warranty plan on the battery. I was hoping to find Oppo’s fast-charging SuperVooc charger. However, the company has chosen not to include this for ease of shipping and carbon footprint. When unboxing I did wonder if the charger wouldn’t have fit as the Reno 11F comes in a decent size box.

Durability

in 2024 tech needs to keep up with active lifestyles without failing. Oppo has tested its new Reno rigorously to improve durability and shock resistance ultimately to support the active lifestyle of its users. Although long-term testing should prove this, for now, I must say that it sure looks like a sturdy phone. Oppo is unique in self-providing repairs for their phones, and offering a battery plan for their first-wave buyers of the phone. The phone can withstand temperatures up to 60 degrees Celcius and can operate in as low as -20 Celcius.

The phone withstands 90% humidity and a 60-minute direct exposure to rain. The 11F holds an IP65 rating. For me personally, this is a bit of a letdown. With the new Reno clearly marketed towards the young and active I was expecting it to withstand total immersion in water for a longer period.

Phones that can be immersed in water for longer periods of time: (IP67/68)
2023 Phones:

iPhone 14 series
Samsung Galaxy S23 series
Google Pixel 7 series
Sony Xperia 2 series
OnePlus 11 series

2024 Phones:

iPhone 15 series
Samsung Galaxy S24 series
Google Pixel 8 series
Sony Xperia 3 series
OnePlus 12 series

Carefully selected pricepoint

I guess that Oppo had to choose what capabilities to combine into the 11F package and still be at a comparative price point. And yes there are phones on the list above that are currently cheaper with higher IP ratings, but for the overall package including the cameras, battery and charging options Oppo has delivered a quality product with a flagship-like look and feel and has balanced the pricepoint beautifully. The Oppo Reno 11F will have a launch price of 449 euro in Europe.

Conclusion

⛔️Only IP65 rating
⛔️SuperVooc charger not included

I can highly recommend the Reno 11F. The phone boasts quality features and as stated impresses with its flagship-like look and feel. I can see how Oppo has carefully selected the features and functions while maintaining the phone at a very competitive price point. The Palm Green with the matt finish is the best colour option for me, making this a good-looking phone. The camera performs well in various conditions creating nice, clear and bright shots. My experience in charging the phone was very good, I achieved 50% state of charge in 20 minutes and 100% in 50 minutes and a full charge lasted me 2 days. Conclusion Oppo has delivered a premium mid-range phone which when combined with the launch price of 449 euro makes this currently my favourite affordable flagship-like phone.
