Our choice 🚀: Bulova Lunar Pilot

Bulova Lunar Pilot

On August 2, 1971, Bulova made space exploration history: During the Apollo 15 moon landing, one of the astronauts wore a Bulova chronograph specially designed for lunar conditions. The new special edition is a faithful replica of the original, featuring the latest technology.

This watch is a great conversation starter. Some say the astronaut took this Bulova watch because his Omega failed him right before departure. True or not the Lunar Pilot is extreme value for money at 550 euros.

From Amsterdam 🇳🇱 : Fromanteel Pendulum Original

From Amsterdam Fromanteel Pendulum Original

The Pendulum Original by Fromanteel pays homage to the 17th-century Fromanteel family’s pendulum mechanism with its timeless design. This Swiss automatic watch epitomizes sophistication in men’s timepieces, featuring a self-winding mechanism that seamlessly integrates historical craftsmanship with contemporary timekeeping technology.

I can’t wear this watch as my stubborn skin gets irritated a bit to quickly. However, if I could wear a leather strap I would not leave my home country and would drive straight to Amsterdam to pick me up this timepiece from Fromanteel. Coming in at 1.199 euros it is still very reasonably priced for a Swiss-made automatic movement watch.

The German ‘Flieger’ 🛩️: Flieger Classic Chrono

My personal favourite The Stowa Flieger

The Stowa Flieger, rooted in German aviation history, embodies simplicity and functionality. Originally crafted for WWII pilots, it features a distinctive large dial with clear, luminescent numerals for legibility during missions. Today, Stowa continues this legacy with precise Swiss movements and meticulous craftsmanship in each Flieger model.

Multiple watch brands delivered watches to the German airforce for example; Lange & Söhne, Laco, Wempe, and IWC Schaffhausen. There are even cheaper German so-called Fliegeruhren available from some of thesebrands but my favourite value-for-money is the Stowa. Currently for sale at 2.532 euros

Shut up and take my money 💰: Hamilton Intra-Matic Auto Chrono 40 mm

Shut up and take my money Hamilton Intra-Matic Auto Chrono 40 mm

The Hamilton Intra-Matic Auto Chrono 40mm combines vintage charm with modern precision. Its sleek design, featuring a panda dial and sapphire crystal, evokes classic racing watches. Powered by a reliable automatic movement, it offers functionality and style, making it a standout choice for enthusiasts of both heritage and performance.

You might need to look around and first find this watch, as Hamilton itself no longer sells it through their website. This probably means that it’s going to be hard to find one new for the list price mentioned € 2.495 by Hamilton.

Tips for Caring for Your Affordable Watches

Caring for your affordable watches ensures longevity and optimal performance. Follow these tips to maintain their appearance and functionality for years to come.

Regular Cleaning and Maintenance

Regular cleaning and maintenance of luxury watches are essential to preserve their beauty and functionality. Begin by wiping the watch with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove dust and fingerprints. For a more thorough cleaning, use a damp cloth and mild soap, ensuring not to submerge the watch unless it is specifically water-resistant. Pay special attention to the case back, bezel, and crown, as dirt can accumulate in these areas.

For metal bracelets, use a soft brush to gently clean between the links. Leather straps should be wiped with a dry cloth and kept away from moisture to prevent deterioration. Periodically, have your watch professionally serviced, typically every three to five years, to check the movement, seals, and gaskets.

Proper Storage and Handling

Store your luxury watch in a protective case or watch box when not in use, avoiding exposure to extreme temperatures and magnetic fields. Following these steps ensures your luxury timepiece remains in pristine condition and continues to operate flawlessly.
