I went on a holiday with my family recently and bought a DJI Gimbal to see if it’s worth the money. You might want one even if you’re a hobbyist and not a cinematographer. In this DJI SE Gimbal review, I will share my experiences and insights.
Introduction to DJI Osmo Mobile SE
The DJI OSMO SE is a versatile and compact handheld gimbal designed for amateur and professional videographers. It ensures smooth and stable footage. With its three-axis stabilization system, it guarantees shake-free video capture. This makes it ideal for dynamic shooting scenarios. The OSMO SE integrates advanced features like ActiveTrack, which allows the gimbal to automatically follow subjects. It also includes Motion Timelapse for capturing stunning time-lapse videos with precision. Its user-friendly design includes ergonomic controls and a built-in battery, providing up to 15 hours of operation on a single charge. Compatible with the DJI Mimo app, users can access a range of creative shooting modes and intuitive editing tools. The OSMO SE’s lightweight and portable build makes it perfect for travel, vlogging, and on-the-go filmmaking. It delivers professional-grade stabilization in a convenient and affordable package.

Key Features and Performance
The DJI OSMO SE features a three-axis stabilization system for smooth footage, ActiveTrack for auto-follow, and Motion Timelapse for stunning time-lapses. It offers up to 15 hours of battery life and DJI Mimo app compatibility for creative shooting and editing. It’s ideal for professional-quality video production.

Stabilization and Control
The DJI OSMO SE offers advanced stabilization and control features. It ensures professional-quality video capture. Its three-axis stabilization system effectively counteracts unwanted movements, delivering smooth, shake-free footage even in dynamic conditions. This technology is crucial for achieving cinematic video quality. It works whether you’re walking, running, or in a moving vehicle. Additionally, the OSMO SE’s intuitive controls, including a joystick and customizable buttons, provide precise maneuverability. These controls, combined with the DJI Mimo app, allow for seamless adjustments and access to creative shooting modes like ActiveTrack and Motion Timelapse. The result is unparalleled stability and control, making it an essential tool for videographers.
The DJI MIMO App
So far I’m really impressed by the performance and value for money (more on that later). And the performance of the app is good as well. There are some tweaks DJI could make to improve the overall experience. When you first start using the app you will get bombarded with pop-ups and mandatory guides through the app. And I get why, overall the app isn’t all that intuitive. Once set up it’s good but you will need to invest some time into it before you’re ready to shoot. I’m wondering why Gimbals need their own app, wouldn’t it be way easier to use the default camera? I guess that Apple and Android haven’t built-in enough API controls for Gimbals to work effectively.

Tested with Android
I’ve also tried the OSMO SE with Xiaomi 14 Ultra which on paper looks like the perfect Android phone to pair with the DJI. However, I needed to pull the app from DJI’s website and give all sorts of permissions. It’s weird that the app isn’t in the official Google App Store. Another thing I noticed during that test was that due to Xiaomi’s large camera set-up, I could not get that phone balanced on the OSMO’s mount. This is a shame. You can read the full test here.
Battery Life and Charging
The DJI OSMO SE is equipped with a built-in battery that provides up to 15 hours of continuous operation. This ensures extensive usage for extended shooting sessions. This impressive battery life minimizes downtime and maximizes productivity. Additionally, the OSMO SE supports fast charging via a USB-C port, allowing for quick recharges when needed. This combination of long battery life and efficient charging makes the OSMO SE ideal for both amateur and professional videographers on the go.
Value for Money
The DJI OSMO SE offers excellent value for money compared to the DJI OSMO 6. This makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious videographers. While the OSMO 6 boasts advanced features like a built-in extension rod and enhanced stabilization, the OSMO SE provides similar high-quality stabilization at a lower price point. It includes three-axis stabilization, ActiveTrack, Motion Timelapse, and long battery life. This ensures professional-grade footage without the premium cost. The OSMO SE’s affordability combined with its robust feature set makes it a practical choice for those seeking reliable performance and creative control without breaking the bank.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the DJI Gimbal proved to be worth the investment. Its ease of use, stabilization features, and quality results make it an excellent tool for hobbyists, not just professional cinematographers. It enhances the overall video experience for family holidays and everyday moments.
